How do I prepare Ceremonial Matcha?

Last updated on Apr 25, 2026

Ceremonial matcha is a stone-ground tea powder whisked into water — different from steeping a tea bag. Here's how to prepare it:

  1. Add 1–2 teaspoons of matcha to your bowl or cup.

  2. Pour 2–4 oz of hot water (175°F / 80°C) over the powder. Cooler than oolong — high heat damages the delicate flavor and antioxidants.

  3. Whisk vigorously for 15–30 seconds until the matcha is fully dissolved and a light foam forms on top.

  4. Drink immediately. Matcha is best fresh — quality fades after 5–10 minutes.

  5. For variations:

    • Matcha latte: prepare as above, then add 4–6 oz steamed milk (dairy or plant-based)
    • Iced matcha: prepare with cold water, shake or whisk, pour over ice
    • Smoothie addition: blend 1 teaspoon directly into a smoothie

Once opened, store the tin in the fridge to preserve flavor and color.
