Ceremonial matcha is a stone-ground tea powder whisked into water — different from steeping a tea bag. Here's how to prepare it:
-
Add 1–2 teaspoons of matcha to your bowl or cup.
-
Pour 2–4 oz of hot water (175°F / 80°C) over the powder. Cooler than oolong — high heat damages the delicate flavor and antioxidants.
-
Whisk vigorously for 15–30 seconds until the matcha is fully dissolved and a light foam forms on top.
-
Drink immediately. Matcha is best fresh — quality fades after 5–10 minutes.
-
For variations:
- Matcha latte: prepare as above, then add 4–6 oz steamed milk (dairy or plant-based)
- Iced matcha: prepare with cold water, shake or whisk, pour over ice
- Smoothie addition: blend 1 teaspoon directly into a smoothie
Once opened, store the tin in the fridge to preserve flavor and color.
